Women’s History Month: A Spotlight on Women in Transportation

March is Women’s History Month, a time to recognize and honor the incredible contributions of women throughout history and today. At Stokes, a certified women-owned business, this observance holds special significance. As we navigate male-dominated industries like construction and transportation, we take pride in amplifying the achievements of trailblazing women who have paved the way.

This month, we’re spotlighting five women who have left a lasting impact on the transportation industry:

  1. Elizabeth Dole – First female U.S. Secretary of Transportation
  2. Alice Huylar Ramsey – First woman to drive across the United States
  3. Olive Dennis – Pioneering female engineer in the American railroad industry
  4. Helen Schultz – Founder of the first woman-owned bus line
  5. Annie Cohen Kopchovsky (aka Annie Londonderry) – First woman to bicycle around the world

Throughout March, we’ll be sharing more about these women and their groundbreaking achievements on our social media platforms. We’ll also highlight Stokes’ projects that align with their contributions, showcasing how their legacies continue to shape the industry today.

Follow us and stay tuned for inspiring stories all month long!
